WHAT DO WE DO?

Community Advice Antrim & Newtownabbey (formerly known as Citizens Advice) has been meeting the needs of our community by providing free, independent and quality advice to local people since 1966.

Our team has over 220 years experience in delivering advice and challenging policies on a wide range of issues.

CAAN was established by the community to serve the community; we pride ourselves in Putting People First.

Community Advice Antrim & Newtownabbey provides advice that is free, independent, confidential and impartial to everyone on their rights and responsibilities.

We act with integrity and compassion, and engage and inspire each other, enabling positive outcomes for the people who use our services.

OUR SERVICES

CAAN is funded by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council to deliver advice within the local area. Our advice service is full-time from our two main offices, we also have six outreaches so you can access us easily (click here). We can give you advice by telephone, email or face-to-face – whatever suits you best.

Our advice covers a wide range of things including Welfare Benefits; Debt & Finance; Housing; Employment; Consumer; Health; Relationships; Immigration; Education; and Tax.

We can help you with one-off advice and also with things that require us to negotiate on your behalf which may take multiple visits to us in order to resolve your problem.

Advice4health is a referral based service. We work closely with health professionals who refer individuals and families who need additional support in accessing advice as a result of mental or physical health issues and addictions.

Advice4health supports clients with a range of issues, including welfare benefit calculations, claim forms and appeals; housing improvements and conditions; debt & finance; relationships; and discrimination.

The service is based in hospitals, health centres and community settings across the Northern Trust area; home visits can also be arranged. If you are a health professional, you can refer a client by emailing info@advice4health.org.

The Advice4Health Project is delivered in partnership with the Public Health Agency (Northern Office) and Community Advice Causeway.

The Macmillan Benefits Service is a Northern Ireland wide benefit uptake service for people affected by cancer.

The service is for cancer patients, their families and carers where the patient is at the diagnosis, treatment or end of life stage.

We work in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, the five health trusts in NI along with advice agencies in each of the trust localities.

Referrals to the service are made by contacting the Macmillan advice team on 03001233233 option 1.

Pension Wise is a free and impartial government guidance service to help you understand what you can do with your pension pot.

People now have more choice than ever when it comes to their pension, and the complexity of the various products means it’s vital to understand the options available.

Our Money Advice service is part of a NI wide service in partnership with AdviceNI. It supports people who need help with debt. The service is available via phone, email and face-to-face appointment at both our main offices.

We can support you in making the right choices, including options to deal with your debt problems, how to avoid losing your home and how to get your finances back into shape.

Our Welfare Reform project is delivered in partnership with AdviceNI.

It has been set up to support anyone needing help or independent advice about any of the changes to the welfare system. It covers a range of issues such as Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payments, Bedroom Tax, Benefit Cap
